Katia's Story

Operating from Truro (Canada), Katia is a seasoned professional with a diverse background in land use and transport analysis. She currently lives and works at the Nova Scotia.

 

Previously, Katia worked at David Simmonds Consultancy in Cambridge, England, as a Senior Land Use/Transport Analyst. In this role, she collaborated on various planning projects for both public and private clients, delivering precise research-based forecasting and impact assessment studies. Katia was instrumental in developing and executing Land Use Transport Interaction (LUTI) models, which investigated demographic and economic shifts resulting from land use and transport projects. She also ran the company's DELTA package for land-use and economic planning projects across different countries, utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyse changes in demographics, land values, and employment trends. Additionally, she contributed to LUTI training for external users in Korea, enhancing global understanding and application of these models.

In Brazil, Katia made significant contributions at the Municipal Transportation Agency, where she managed the city's traffic network and proposed strategic improvements. She was integral to the daily execution of traffic projects, coordinating with various governmental agencies and engaging with the public to address community needs. Katia developed a comprehensive traffic accident assessment study to identify high-risk areas and propose countermeasures, and she played a key role in planning and implementing exclusive bus corridors. Her proficiency in producing detailed reports and presentations ensured that both the internal team and the community were well-informed about ongoing projects. Her leadership skills were demonstrated by her management of a teams Traffic Control Agents, ensuring efficient and effective traffic management throughout the city.
